PortraitThe project encouraged students to utilize the studio at the school to explore the many techniques and styles related to portrait photography. Many elements must be considered when taking a portrait of someone, such as his or her posture, the lighting, the camera aperture, any shadows, and the appearance of the background. The portrait project required the students to capture a variety of very different portraits. Therefore, I took both full body images and ones of just my subject's face. For all of the full-body portraits, I had my subject stand or sit in different poses that add interest to the composition of the pictures. Then, in those focusing entirely on my subject's face, I wanted to differentiate from traditional portraits, so I had my subject showcase a certain expression, and I set up the lighting in a way that further conveys the mood associated with the expression. All in all, I feel extremely pleased with the aesthetic value and individualism that each of my pictures convey.
