Value and FormMultiple elements of art can be shown in a single image; photographers are not limited to portraying one technique. The value and form project allowed the students to incorporate both styles into a single image. Value is the contrast of black and white images. Photographers can use many variations of contrast. For example, a "high contrast" photograph includes shadows and highlights which are extremely visible. "Low contrast" images contain a similar shade throughout, and a more natural contrast has some highlights and shadows but do not have a ton of varying between shades. The other aspect of the project that the photographers demonstrated was form. In any image with form, two clearly visible element will be depth and volume. An image demonstrating the three-dimensional technique usually consists of shadows which show the depth of a subject. Natalie felt fairly content with her resulting images, believing that they all showed both techniques. She did not find it complicated including value into her photograph, but capturing form was more difficult.
